9-YEAR-OLD HIDES, CALLS 911 WHILE HOUSE WAS BURGLARIZED, POLICE SAY
Two burglars were caught in the act after a 9-year-old boy who was left home alone on Thanksgiving break heard the men breaking in Monday and called 911, police say. (NBC DFW)

MAN SHOT AFTER BREAKING INTO OFFICER'S HOUSE, POLICE SAY
An off-duty Dallas police officer shot a man who broke into his house in the 3000 block of Alma Road Tuesday afternoon, Richardson police said. Police said a man who may have been involved showed up at Medical City Hospital.  There was no word on the extent of the man's injuiries or his condition. The officer was not injured. (NBC DFW)

RIFLE STOLEN IN 1977 IS RETURNED TO OWNER
Mike Cassidy never imagined he'd see his rifle again. In July 1977, Cassidy, then a federal firearms dealer, bought a Marlin .35-caliber, lever-action rifle at a pawn shop while visiting relatives in Albuquerque. But at the second pawn shop he visited that day, his father-in-law forgot to lock the car door, and someone stole the rifle. On Friday, Cassidy and the rifle were reunited after a Fort Worth police officer discovered that the stolen rifle had recently been sold to an east Fort Worth gun store. (Star-Telegram)

ARLINGTON POLICE SEARCH FOR A ROBBER WITH DISTINCT TATTOO
Arlington police released surveillance camera photos of a man they said robbed someone outside a Valero store last week. Police say the clerk thought the man looked suspicious, locked the door, so the man robbed someone outside. (NBC DFW)

PRISON FOR TEXAS DOCTOR IN CHILD PORN CASE
A former head of internal medicine at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth must serve 3 ½ years in prison for possession of child pornography. A federal judge in Dallas on Tuesday sentenced Dr. James Shin, of Houston. The physician must report to prison by Jan. 6. Shin, who formerly lived in Southlake, pleaded guilty in July. He also must pay a $25,000 fine. Shin, also known as Young Jin Shin and James Young-Jin Shin, must register as a sex offender. He will face deportation proceedings to South Korea upon his release. Prosecutors say Shin in September 2007 used the Internet to download and possess images and videos of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Shin resigned from the hospital in May.

POLICE SEARCH FOR FAKE COP WHO PULLED WOMAN OVER
Midlothian police said a man posing as a police officer pulled over a woman on Highway 67 near the Shiloh Road exit Sunday night. He asked her for some information, but didn't hurt her. Police said the man drove a light-colored, two-door car with flashing lights.
