SOUND OF MUSIC SING ALONG: We have to admit that on more than one occasion we’ve let a few Do-Re-Mi’s slip while watching this classic, but we usually play it off with a cough or sneeze of some sort. The Women’s Chorus of Dallas is hosting a sing along, costume friendly showing of the classic this Saturday at the Kessler Theatre in Oak Cliff. Obtaining tickets ahead of time ( i.e. now) is suggested as seating is limited. A full bar will be available for liquid courage. $15, 2 to 5 p.m.
HIP POCKET THEATRE: The Hip is a summer theatre, but they’re looking forward to throwing more events during the off season. Hang out in their backyard this Saturday for a showing of an originally produced 1987 play, Women in Slips, which will be projected onto a sheet. Beer, wine and hot chocolate (the necessities) will be available for purchase, and be sure to brush up on your s'more making skills as the firepits will be lit. Hip Pocket Theatre, $10, Doors at 6:30 p.m., Movie starts at 7 p.m.
LATE NIGHTS AT THE DMA: This is a regular favorite on our list of artsy things to do in the city. This week celebrates the exhibition: African Masks: the Art of Disguise, and offers a variety of activities including happy hour from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Atrium with sounds of an African Urban Jazz group, Community Coffee sampling, Twitter treasure hunts, performances by the Black Dance Theatre, yoga for kids, and a night owl tour of the museum. Make your way through the exhibits and into the C3 Theatre for poetry open mic night. Dallas Museum of Art, Free for members, $10 for adults, 6 p.m. to midnight.
THURSDAY NIGHT LIVE: If you can’t make the DMA on Friday because you’re heading to the Crow’s event listed below, check them out the night prior for Thursday Night Live. Dine amongst live jazz, or just enjoy a cocktail and artful conversation. Free for members, $10 for adults, 5 to 9 p.m.
BOLLYWOOD BASH: Be sure to make it to the Crow Collection this Friday for a festive party that will include art activities, a jewelry trunk show, film screenings, breakdancing, and a karaoke show involving Asian beer sampling. Go on… Crow Collection of Asian Art, Free, 6 p.m. to midnight.
