Convicted Killer Of Dallas-Area Woman Set To Die Thursday

On a 911 recording, 8-year-old Jacoby Talbert was breathing heavily when he identified "Robert" as the man who slashed his throat and killed his mother at their Dallas-area apartment.

Robert is Robert Jean Hudson, his mother's former boyfriend, who confessed to the May 1999 attack that left Edith Kendrick dead and her son seriously wounded.

The 45-year-old death row inmate is scheduled to die in the state death chamber for the slaying. He'd be the 18th Texas inmate executed this year in the nation's most active death penalty state.

Two other executions scheduled for this week in Texas were stopped by the courts.

Evidence showed Hudson called his ex-girlfriend on the phone and became upset when he heard another man's voice in the background. He went to her apartment in Mesquite, kicked in the door and began swinging a knife. The other man fled.

Kendrick's son got between Hudson and his 35-year-old mother and was slashed.
