Chesapeake Energy opens its 15-acre grounds to the public. The Plaza sets off the night sky with 68-1,000 watt red and green lights atop its crown some 200 feet above the ground. The lights are clearly visible across Fort Worth and even beyond loop 820.

There are nightly streams of visitors enjoying a walk around the trees and across the facility. The Chesapeake Plaza grounds are open to the public every night beginning at dusk. Holiday revelers of all ages are encouraged to walk the grounds, bring a picnic or simply enjoy the lights from the comfort of their car.

For ground level enjoyment of those passing by are 107 oak and cypress trees wrapped from truck to the tallest limb in 672,000 lights in a rainbow of colors. Visitors are welcome to park in the lots off Fifth Street or Forest Park Blvd., but should be cautious of the AT&T utility relocation project at Fifth and Forest Park that partially blocks access to the lots.

The lights atop Chesapeake Plaza building are fitted with theatrical gels purchased from Magic Etc. in Fort Worth. The gels are replaced often as they fade due to the light passing through them nightly. The gels are cut to approximately a 15 inch square and affixed on the lights with binder clips making this downtown icon a creation of personal ingenuity.
