Captains Sink Airhogs with Big Innings

In his first career professional start, T.J. Macy went three and two-thirds perfect innings before running into trouble in the fifth as AirHogs fell to the Captains 10-5.

Grand Prairie got on top first in the third after Drew Holder reached first after striking out on a wild pitch. Aaron Garza bunted him over to second base and Brandon Carter singled him home to give the AirHogs the 1-0 lead.

Starter T.J. Macy ran into trouble in the fifth when Jose Torres doubled to left center and stole third with one out. Richard Paz blooped a single past a drawn in infield to score Torres. Dan Williams was then hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Tommy Bryant followed by hitting a 3-run blast over the left field wall to put the Captains ahead 4-1. Cody Crowell came in to relieve Macy and retired Jonathan Reynoso to end the inning.

The AirHogs wouldn’t stay behind for long tying the game in the bottom half of the frame. Consecutive walks to Ron Fenwick and Drew Holder put runners at first and second with no outs. Aaron Garza then smoked a double down the left field line bringing in two. Brandon Carter bunted Garza to third and Cesar Nicolas hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Garza to tie the game.

Shreveport-Bossier fought back scoring two more the next inning to recapture the lead at 6-4. Christopher Garcia led off the inning with a walk and Andes Rodriguez tripled him home to give the Captains the 5-4 lead. Jose Torres then walked to put runners at the corners. Torres stole second and Rodriguez scored as J.B. Tucker’s throw sailed into centerfield.

The AirHogs cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning scoring a run on a Chad Gabriel double that score Javier Brito to make it 5-6.

The Captains would take back the lead for good in the eighth. Christopher Garcia singled up the middle. Andes Rodriguez brought him home with a double into the left field corner to make it 7-5. Selwyn Langaigne lined a single up the middle advancing Rodriguez to third. Jose Torres then singled up the middle to bring home Rodriguez and push the Captains lead to 8-3. Richard Paz followed with a single of his own past the third basemen to load the bases before Tommy Bryant grounded into a fielder’s choice to score another run making it 9-5. Jonathan Reynoso then brought home another run with an RBI single to left.

In the loss Chad Gabriel led the way for the AirHogs going three for four with a run batted in while Aaron Garza went two for four with two RBI. For the Captains Tommy Bryant was one for four with four RBI including a home run and Andes Rodriguez chipped in going two for five and knocking in two.
