Master builder job on line at Legos competition

by Bruce Felps

Playing with Legos is serious business for people looking to land a job as master model builder — yes, that's a real job title — with the new LEGOLAND Discovery Center Dallas/Fort Worth at Grapevine Mills Mall.

Applicants, contestants really, for the job face off in a two-day engineering competition for the gig starting tomorrow — 1-6 p.m., at the American Airlines Center; and Sunday, noon-2 p.m., at Grapevine Mills. Company officials will dump a pile of Legos bricks in front of the hopefuls, who will proceed to show off their building skills and abstract thought capacities.

Judges — kids and adults — will narrow the field after Saturday’s round, and the finalists move on the, well, the finals Sunday. The winner from that heat goes on to an interview before landing the coveted gig of master model builder. Wonder if it’s union.

But what a concept — prove you can do the job before it’s offered.

Think you can handle the pressure? Go for it.

Play-Doh experts need not apply.
