Feel at Home at Babe's

Hometown feel keeps customers coming back

To eat at Babe’s Chicken Dinner House is to feel at home.

Diner Judy Youngs loves the restaurant. “Awesome! I mean is there any question? Any doubt? My goodness, it’s the best,” she told us.

You’ll get mom’s cooking plus sides of mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, a salad and biscuits. They also have carry out.

Customer Janice Morrison knows all about taking it for the road. “We have a family member that is in the hospital and she is demanding to eat here. So, we’re accommodating her and picking up some to-go and it just looks wonderful.”

There are only six main entrees on the menu ranging from Chicken Fried Steak to Pot Roast with Gravy. It’s all served family style and you can have as many vegetables as you want.

But don’t forget about dessert -- you can choose from six homemade pies.

Babe’s is only a couple of blocks from Youngs job, which keeps her coming back.

“Our office is probably less than a mile from here. So, you know, it can become our company cafeteria with no problem at all; we could just eat here everyday. Try something different and be perfectly happy,” Youngs says.

Beyond the food, there’s also the ambience. The restaurant itself is built to look like an old town with detailed business facades and artifacts from yesteryear.

Co-owner Joel Vinyard says it gives the restaurant a down home touch. “You could come several times and not see everything and that is very much on purpose.”

There’s also live singing. Sometimes the waitresses sing solo. Other times they’ll gather together to serenade you as a group. “They bring a lot of energy and excitement to it,” Vinyard explains.

Judy Youngs enjoys it all because familiar food and a good time are always on the menu. “You know it’s just fun. You can bring the whole family and everyone is comfortable it is just like being at home only you don’t have to do the work or clean out the grease."

And if you leave hungry, it’s your own fault.

We visited the Babe's location in Arlington for this story, but there are many Babe's Chicken locations around the Metroplex. Click here for Babe's official website with menus for each location and directions on how to get there.
