A Peek Inside Rise To The Occasion

Rise to the Occasion, the French cookbook-meets-lifestyle guide penned by Rise No. 1 owners Hedda Dowd and Cherif Brahmi, has finally hit bookstore shelves across the nation. The Feast wanted a closer look inside the much anticipated book, so we picked up a copy and flipped through.

There is of course an entire chapter dedicated to Rise's claim to fame: the souffle. A handful of recipes spanning from savory ham and cheese (the first souffle Brahmi learned to make in culinary school) to sweet cranberry souffles coincide with illustrated step-by-step instructions to help you master the techniques. [Or, this awesome demonstration should help.] If the thought of attempting a souffle is intimidating, the book also includes less complicated recipes passed down through the Dowd and Brahmi families. Think mazatlan pasta salad, apricot galette, French onion soup and classic cocktails like Brahmi's signature pastis.

But the book is more than a round up of Dowd and Brahmi's favorite dishes. It also delves into the experience that surrounds the food. The pair provides tips for green living, the art of table setting, and entertaining based on their way of living.
