WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME, DALLAS?: The excessive eyeliner-wearing, almost American Idol winner is in Dallas “For Your Entertainment” – get it? That’s the name of his album, folks. Adam Lambert, along with fellow Idol pal Allison Iraheta and Australian guitarist Orianthi, are currently touring the U.S. and are in town tonight for a knockout show. The season eight runner-up delivered memorable performances on the Idol stage and even during his solo performances, particularly during last year’s American Music Awards when he sparked tons of FCC complaints for kissing a man during his show. Yikes! The controversy only prompted Lambert’s chart-topping sales. You can catch the talented Mr. Lambert all glammed-up, wailing to the beat, and ready to kiss any one of his band mates at The Palladium Ballroom at 8 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
AY YA YAY YA!: The violins, the trumpets, the guitars, and not to mention those outfits – everything about Mariachi music spells out an extravagant, festive good time! The Winspear Opera House welcomes the Mexican ensemble Mariachi Vargas de Tacalitlan and their wide-brimmed hats for an evening of cultural song. The Mariachi group dates back to the late 1800’s and tonight the talented bunch under the musical direction of Don Jose “Pepe” Martinez celebrate the musical pride of Mexico ten years into the new millennium. Clap your hands and get ready to fiesta starting at 8 p.m.
DOUBLE-TEAM ART: Ever wonder how people differ depending on their social circle or surroundings? Well, let two artists show you around their neck of the woods for an eye-opening creative event. Today marks the opening of a new exhibit at the Rising Gallery in Dallas. “Community” features the drawings of local artist Jim Hastings and Brooklyn-based artist John Skibo – debuting for the first time in a Dallas gallery. The duo’s exhibit highlights the social interactions people share with one another within neighborhoods in relation to the effects of their environment. The artwork will be on display until October 2.
