9/11-9/12: The Band That Never Sleeps

LYFE LESSONS: As possibly one of the most “socially minded R&B singers” according to The New York Times, platinum-selling singer-songwriter and overall gifted musician Lyfe Jennings doesn’t shy from thought-provoking lyrics or meaningful music. The Ohio native released his supposed final album on Aug. 31, “I Still Believe” to devote more time to his family. The soon-to-be retired R&B soul singer may be walking away from the stage, but he will continue to have a behind-the-scenes producing presence. On Sunday watch how Jennings wows Dallas for possibly the last time with powerful rhymes and undeniable talent at the House of Blues at 8 p.m.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN: It’s hard to really find anyone who doesn’t know a Dave Matthews Band tune or two or three. DMB spans so many music genres combining soul, rock, jazz, bluegrass, and hip-hop; it’s impossible not to appreciate the band’s eclectic sound. They’ve been around since the early ‘90’s and continue knocking out hits and entertaining crowds on seemingly endless tours. Seriously, they haven’t stopped touring in twenty years! DMB will finally get a breather next year with some much needed time off. See the traveling veterans tonight at the Superpages.com at 7 p.m. before they take a well-deserved yearlong nap.

EXTREME WATER WORKS: Get out of the house this weekend and onto the lake. This weekend race on the waters of Lake Lewisville on a jet ski or at least watch the pros do it at the 2010 R5WaterXRacing Regional Finals known as WaterFest. The wild water weekend begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Along with the jet ski fueled water activities will be games for the kiddies, live music, exhibits, and of course, food. All the non-water adventures will be taking place off the shores of Lake Dallas’ Willow Grove Park.
