8/5: Art House

It's going to be an artful evening wherever you go tonight

FOUR'S A CROWD: Band reunions have been in vogue for the last few years with everyone from My Bloody Valentine to Poison getting in on the act. For fans of New Zealand band Crowded House, that moment has actually come tonight at House of Blues. Later this summer, as they play big shows at Coachella in the Californian desert and at Hyde Park in London's swinging West End, those crowds will surely swell as die-hard enthusiasts who go back to Split Enz days are joined by the legions of fans who were fatally smitten by the likes of "Weather With You" and "Don't Dream It's Over" in the previous decade and the ever-rolling stream of new supporters who have grown up with the music but never before had the chance to clap eyes on the people who made it.

GOOD TIMES WITH SPOOKY FOLK: Feel like having some amazing K.C. style BBQ and seeing a pretty great band play live…for free? Then you need to get down to Uptown where stands the house/office of Switch Creative Group. Whether or not you need a website or a logo, you can still come down to 2705 Guillot St. in Dallas around 7 p.m. to see and hear the soothing sounds of Spooky Folk. What's the catch you say? Well the catch is helping some good kids out though donating to the Rise School of Dallas, after you have been fed, beered and gotten your artistic lean on.

SMART ART: Want to see something cool? (Yes) Want to hear something cool? (Double Yes) That's what we thought. Join Timothy G. Andrus at the Amon Carter Museum to discover Stuart Davis' response to the New Mexican landscape and how it anticipates his later attitudes toward the American Scene movement of the 1930s from 6 to 7 p.m. Timothy G. Andrus is a Ph.D. candidate at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where he is writing a dissertation on the development of Stuart Davis’s art theory in the 1920s. He has presented his research on Davis and other aspects of American modernism at conferences and symposia nationally, including the College Art Association Annual Conference and the Southeastern College Art Conference. Now you see why we're calling it "smart art."
