8/15: Record Weekend

DISCO DEAHL: So there's this girl Dani Deahl, a DJ from house-hot Chicago, who runs Calamity Jane Records (an arm of Rhythm) and interviews the likes of Perry Farrell for industry mags like BPM. And she's linked up with Fallout Lounge staples Disqo Disco for her second gig at that club in recent months. It'd be a big deal to have her here again anyway, but the show's also her birthday party -- according to Twitter, she's in Dallas on her actual day of birth. This could be one of the biggest mid-sized dance parties of the year. Saturday, 9PM.

FOR THE RECORD: In the last three years, even the most avid collectors have likely amassed music they own only in digital format. Whether manifested in a craving for out-of-print Palace Brothers discovered through a love affair with Will Oldham as Bonnie 'Prince' Billy or simply a new reverence for musicians who never saw their work released on CD, love of vinyl is what will bring droves to the Westin Park Central Hotel Dallas for the Dallas Record & CD Show. Folks behind the convention bill it as Dallas' first such gathering pf LPs, 45s, 78s, CDs, and memorabilia since 2006. Sunday, 10AM-5PM.

AMERICANA: Did you know Centro-matic's Will Johnson has a collection of original folk art baseball paintings to his name? We didn't, but passed on the info about an exhibit featuring the portraits as soon as we heard. Johnson's work will be on the walls at Good Records Sunday along with bandmate Matt Pence's photography at "Late Blooms/Quality Starts," a show/exhibit where browsers can also hear an acoustic set by Johnson. Sunday, 7PM.
