7/20: Full House

From music to Texas hold 'em, the house is going to be rockin' tonight

DOMA ARIGATO: After Saturday's 10 hour day of live music, you might be thinking there is no way that you want to go see more live music. What if I told you it was free? What if I told you it was an awesome venue like the Granada? And what if I told you it would be a show that is highly unlikely to happen again? Peaked your interest yet? The Dallas Observer Music Awards Ceremony will feature five live mash-ups, where two nominated acts will join forces on stage, sharing a 20-minute slot, performing their own songs, and collaborating with one another for a once-in-a-lifetime performance. In addition to those live-mash-ups, they'll also be bringing back a favorite from last year's ceremony, in which the organizers feature five more high-energy bands performing in the horseshoe-enclosed area toward the back of the Granada's floor. Bands include Dust Congress vs. Shiny Around The Edges, Air Review vs. Smile Smile plus Spooky Folk and the Whiskey Folk Ramblers in the pit. Seating is limited so get there early! Doors at 8 p.m.

EVERY ROSE HAS IT'S THORN: Until recently, I was like many people who made fun of an aging Bret Michaels when given the chance. Then he proved to be the ultimate B.A. by surviving a brain hemorrhage and coming back on to win Celebrity Apprentice. How awesome is that? I don't even think the Donald himself could have pulled that off. Tonight Michaels will rock Jack FM's Bandanaroo at American Airlines Center along with Fuel and Cowboy Mouth. All proceeds from Jack FM's Bandanaroo will benefit Texas Can! an organization that gives young Texans a second chance.

BUG ON THE RIVER: If there is one thing I can tell you about poker, it is this: once you get the bug, you have the bug. You just want to play all the time. Why not take a break from playing in your buddy's garage and get down to the Texas Hold Em Charity Tournament for Special Needs Children at the Garland Elks Lodge? Here's the skinny - $40 buy-in ($25 to prize fund, $15 to special needs children); Poker Run (50/50 split), $1 high hand (winner takes all); Raffle tickets (10 tickets for $5) four great raffle prizes valued at $100 or more (sails, dinners, wine, tequila, beer, work poker t-shirt, much more). Penny raffle for $500 in cash prizes, free taco bar, jewelry sale and much more. The tournament is limited to 100 players (sign up at Meetup.com (Garland Texas Hold Em Club).
