7/16: Bucking Art Tunes

It's a rockin' art show rodeo tonight in the Metroplex

SPROUTING A SEED: There’s no time like summertime for Art Conspiracy activities to begin! Tonight at 7 p.m. one of the cities most interesting and thoughtful artist collectives will host SEED, its annual operational fundraiser at Sons of Herman Hall located at 3414 Elm Street in Dallas. This year’s SEED will feature clocks created by 30 local artists. The hands and the plywood have been provided, but each artist has the chance to modify, construct or deconstruct the clocks in the way they’d like. In Art Conspiracy fashion, the clocks will be auctioned off live. The starting bid for each piece is $20. The event will feature music from The Cocky Americans, Jacob Metcalf and Johnny Beauford and will be hosted by Reid Robinson.

THE OAK CLIFF CROSSROADS: Tonight four great "Dirty South" American music acts converge on The Kessler Theater to conjure up something more than a dust bowl. Headlining solo artist Dim Locator (aka Will Kapinos) returns after being featured during the first show ever at the resurrected Kessler back in March. Pinebox Serenade and The Angelus offer a rural Southern Gothic lyrical imagery and deliver evocative minimalist bluegrass arrangements with traditional folk textures and instrumentation. Southern Karma are male-female duo who bring trace elements of classic Texas folk and Mississippi Delta blues to the mix. Doors are at 7 p.m., downbeat is at 8 p.m.. Tickets are $10 and are available through Prekindle.com.

GET ALONG, LITTLE DOGGIES: Have you ever sat down one afternoon completely bored and had to choose between rodeo and the home shopping network? Aren't you glad you chose the rodeo? It's highly likely that in that moment you realized that it's an amazingly fun event to watch. Well, tonight you can get beyond the glass of your TV and take in the sights and smells of the real deal! The Stockyards Championship Rodeo comes to Cowtown Coliseum tonight at 8PM. And if you're at all worried about the smells, just remember, there is no scent that a huge stick of cotton candy stuck right in front of your face cannot cure.
