7/12: An Education

Get your mind right with these three brain building activities

LEGO MY...COUTURE?: The first annual Dallas Cityscape project reconstructs downtown's most recognizable landmarks in Legos at Northpark Center. The exhibit benefits the East Dallas Community School, which provides early education to diverse groups of children from low-income families. Adults and kids alike will enjoy the artistry and children can create their own buildings in the Kid's Construction Zone. The exhibit is located on Level Two between Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom, next to Barneys New York.

LEARNING TO SAY SOMETHING BEYOND 160 CHARACTERS: In our current culture we have all learned the value of a witty text message, but what about the value of a 15-minute public speech? It's not something you get to practice very often, and more than that, it's not something you get to work on outside of the high school debate team. Thankfully the University of Texas at Arlington is presenting an Oral Presentation Skills workshop from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today. By the time you roll out of it we're sure you'll be ready to go toe-to-toe with President B.O. himself.

SAY HELLO TO YOUR INNER TRUFFAUT: If you've been wondering what to do with that new iPhone hi-def video camera, TCU has just the thing for you. Filmmaking 1o1 will be held July 12-16, 2010 at the J.M Moudy Visual Arts and Communication Building. Filmmaking 1o1 provides intensive four-day workshops with a fifth day of additional panels covering all aspects of filmmaking. While prepping, casting, producing, and editing a short film during the class, Filmmaking 101 students learn the importance of story, legal matters, and the high stress portion of all aspects of production.
