5/31: Remembering Our Past and Celebrating Our Future

From memories to microbrew, there something for everyone to do this Memorial day

MICROBREW AND MACROECONOMICS: If I were a betting man I would always, and I mean always, bet on a horse named Suds Magee. It's not a named often used for the ponies, but if one was going to show up, it would show up today at the Studs and Suds Microbrew Festival at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. This event includes a variety of beers to sample as well as live music, pony rides (the slower kind), bounce houses and a petting zoo, so as you can see this is a family affair...but with drinking and gambling. Don’t forget to enter your name in the drawing for a brand-new Harley-Davidson. Beer samplings are for ages 21 and older only.

FROM EMERIL TO EMERALD CITY: If you're in the Colony today and are looking for a way to be supportive to our soldiers and also of our friends to the east in Louisiana, then the Memorial Day Weekend Cajun-Style Festival at the Dinghy Bar & Grill on Lake Lewisville is exactly what a good time is going to look like to you today. Hosted by Dee Lincoln and Ricky Comardelle at Pier 121 on Lake Lewisville, the menu includes Crawfish Pasta, Red Beans & Rice, Ricky's Rockin' Wings, Peel & "Scarf Em" Shrimp, Boiled Crawfish, Fried catfish, slow roasted pig, and more. After you're done eating dance it off with Emerald City. Ohhhhhh weeeeeeee! Now that is what we call a celebration of country and state!

IF WALLS COULD TALK: If you haven't had a chance to check out the American Veterans Traveling Tribute Wall, then today is your last day to do so till 8PM. After that it's time to get out there and get your freaking boot scoot on in honor of the men and women that serve our county not only currently, but in the generations that came before us. The Texas Freedom Festival on the patio at the Old Mill Restaurant will feature local entertainment including jazz and tap dancers, the Last Chance band, country & western music groups, ballet folklorico groups and the Greiner-Mariachis. If there's not something in there that you can't dance to you're just incapable of having a good time...but we know better than that. Now get out there and dance the wood off that floor!
