2/8: Figureheads

LANDMARK WOMAN: Peggy Guggenheim, the moneyed "Factory Girl" of Picasso's time, collected genius friends (and lovers like Samuel Beckett) along with storied art. Lanie Robertson wrote the one-woman show Woman Before a Glass about her, and Amphibian Productions stages a reading at The Modern just as the museum prepares for the opening of Andy Warhol: The Last Decade on Sunday. $15 donation encouraged. 7PM.

MCSWEENEY'S MAN: Author T.C. Boyle's stories are all over literary America's favorite pubs, but he's most recently known for penning The Women, a fictionalized account of Frank Lloyd Wright's fiery love life Publisher's Weekly called "lush, dense, and hyperliterate." Spend your lunchtime at Southern Methodist University as the writer stops at the Hughes-Trigg Student Center for a reading, lecture and book signing. 12-1:30PM.

SPONTANEOUS GUY: Appeal to Paul Slavens during his residency at Dan's Silverleaf, and you might just get what you never thought you wanted from the Wizard of Denton's Oz. Scrawl your wish as a song title on a slip of paper, and it comes out as improvised song dreamed up by Slavens and his band on cue -- that is, if you attach a tip. 10PM.
