12/7: All About Perspective

ONGOING RESOLVE: Her sister Laura's release from North Korea was one of the bright spots in the news this year, but the story doesn't end there for tonight's speaker at the Winspear. National Geographic Live! teams with the 2009-2010 Brinker International Forum to bring American journalist and idealistic continent-hopper Lisa Ling to Dallas. 7PM. Find tickets here.

PEN AND THE SWORD: Greg Mortenson, the education advocate behind the Three Cups of Tea series and the just-released Stones Into Schools: Promoting Peace With Books Not Bombs, comes to speak at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church about his eight-day imprisonment by the Taliban and his work creating schools for girls in Afghanistan. Admission is free, and no reservations are needed, but space is granted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Doors open at 6:30PM.

DAY JOBS: Through a series of calls made to the tony Manhattan restaurant where he works the reservation line, we find out how thinly spread aspiring actor Sam Peliczowski is -- and inspect our own priorities in the process -- in Becky Mode's Fully Committed. Hear the hilarious one-man reading by Amphibian Productions' Carman Lacivita (and try your hand at an impression of Naomi Campbell's assistant on the way home) at The Modern. Call 817.923.3012 for tickets. 7PM.
