1/24: Music Monday

30 Seconds to Mars, Against Me! and Barley Wine Week

THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS: Thirty Seconds to Mars’ most recent album “This Is War,” not only described the state of the economy at the time of release back in 2008, but could describe the band’s strategy for any future disputes in the music world. The LA natives led by frontman Jared Leto, publicly battled a $30 million lawsuit with Virgin Records at the same time their album was receiving much acclaim. The gloves came off, the lawsuit was annulled and the band keeps on truckin’ all the way to the House of Blues Dallas stage where they will perform some new and old hits at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35.

AGAINST ME: Floridian punk rockers performing under the alias Against Me!, plan to dominate Deep Ellum tonight with their charm and lyrics. The four-man band from Gator country Gainesville (Florida not Texas) departed from their label Sire just last year and keep on rockin’ hitting high notes with their 2010 album “White Crosses.” They’ll be showing Dallas what they’ve got when they play Trees with openers Cheap Girls and Fences. Tickets are $17. Doors open at 7 p.m.

BARLEY WINE WEEK: Enjoy a week of libations all courtesy of the Flying Saucer on the Lake in Garland. The restaurant will host its 2011 Barley Wine Week from Jan. 24 to Jan. 28. The wine tapping begins tonight with Anchor Steam Old Foghorn Ale. Pay $15 and sample various brews at once with their Taster Trays. The free unlimited barley wine of the restaurant’s choice begins at 5 p.m.
