12/13: Beer Cheer

Christmas beer tasting, classical music merriment and theatre cool

UNLIMITED BEERS A FLOWING: If your Christmas wish this season is to breeze through the holidays in a stumbling and slightly buzzed state – no worries, The Idle Rich Pub has the perfect present (cue drum roll) a Christmas Beer Tasting. For $25, forget about the fact that this time of year burns a hole in your pocket and sample the best brews of the year. There will even be a tasting guide and certified beer expert on hand to answer questions. Mix and mingle to “Jingle Bell Rock” while you chug. The tasting begins at 7 p.m.

CLASSICAL JAM: The all-male vocal quartet, New York Polyphony, will be showcasing their octave range at SMU’s Caruth Auditorium tonight. The classical-singing hipsters Geoffrey Williams (countertenor), Geoffrey Silver (tenor), Craig Phillips (bass) and Christopher Dylan Herbert (baritone) hail from the Big Apple. With a New York state of mind in tow, they will sing works by Guillame deMachaut, Josquin Desperez, Antoine Brumel and more. Hear the ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for students.

STAGE PRESENCE: Theatre buffs - rejoice with two shows for the price of one at the Nouveau 47 Theatre in Dallas. Nouveau 47 and Audacity Theatre Lab have Brad McEntire presenting “I Have Angered a Great God” and “The Dolphins of Mars” - two works-in-progress at 7:30 p.m. While across the way in the Magnolia Lounge enjoy some holiday hilarity by FTP Comedy as they perform “The Naughty List: Comedy Re-Gifted!” The night of show and laugh costs a $5 donation.
