10/29: Time Warp

Rocky Horror Picture Show and Repo!

CULT CLASSICS: The Lakewood Theater and Amber Does Dallas present two time warped musicals for the price of one beginning at 9 p.m. Outrageous and off-the-wall doesn’t even begin to describe the transvestite aliens and sexcapades known as the Rocky Horror Picture Show.  The original '70s cult film features Janet (Susan Sarandon) and Brad (Barry Bostwick) as a stranded couple left to seek help from the cross-dressing mad scientist Frankenfurter (Tim Curry) and his band of merry men. The meeting gets the two sucked into a whirlwind of song and dance mixed with flat out randomness that will be recreated on stage tonight. Since the evening already stars wanderers trapped by a mad scientist, it’s only fitting to pair the picture show with a futuristic organ hunt titled Repo! The Genetic Opera! – I mean, it only makes sense. Similar to the recent film Repo Men, the plot centers around a woman trying to avoid having villainous repo men remove her artificial organs. The theater performance has received some buzz and received massive support from DFW Repo! followers. See the science-fiction cult shows just in time for Halloween.

CASE OF THE BAD BRAINS: The originators of hardcore punk resurface at the Granada Theater tonight. Ranked number 99 on VH1’s Greatest Artists of Hard Rock List, The Bad Brains garnered a following for their fast, intense sound changing the world of punk rock. Hailing from the nation’s capitol (the city that later banned the band) in the late ‘70s, their early music reflected their surroundings and was heavily reggae charged. After some fine tuning (and band member changing) they found their sound in rock music. The band’s last album “Build a Nation” was released in 2007 and recently they can be seen touring venues around the globe. Tonight the innovators play the Granada at 8 p.m.

TALES FROM THE CRYPT: If you think trolling around a cemetery at dusk is a bit creepy and vampire-like, you’d be right, but when it’s Halloween time – you're just celebrating the holiday. Tonight the Farmer’s Branch Historical Park invites North Texans on a tour of gravesites at the Keenan Cemetery. Yes, this is happening. The “Encounters of the Past” tour will be guided by costumed actors guiding guests through the early years of Farmers Branch and even visit the final resting places of early citizens. The history of the farmland will be brought to life in a cemetery tour full of dramatic tale – at least you know how and where these stories end. The evening of tombstone exploration is five bucks and begins at 6:30 p.m.
