SMOOTH LANDING: Denison-raised American hero Captain Chesley Sullenberger became the poster person for bright spots in the news this year for landing Flight 1549 when its engines failed. (His celebrated act of competency compelled some of our cohorts to campaign for his inclusion in our 25 Most Interesting People in DFW feature, although he hasn't lived in Texas for decades. Editor's Note: He didn't make the list.) The parade stretches through time and space to the Borders on Preston as Sully signs his new memoir, Highest Duty. 6PM.
ROCKIN' FACES: London in the '70s was all about the Faces, when Ian "Mac" McLagan teamed with Rod Steward and Ron Wood to live hard and rock harder. McLagan will regale fans with stories -- and play a few songs, too -- at the Belmont Hotel for a concert benefiting Daniel Pearl World Music Days, a program dedicated to the memory of the slain journalist whose birthday fell on October 10th. 8:30PM.
PUNCH LEGACY: If you grew up in a church like the one we were reared in, you can't look at a casserole dish full of chicken spaghetti without remembering the women that peppered Wednesday night dinners with tough love. (And if you were an apprentice in the kitchen, you recall a little gossip while those dishes were getting washed.) Church Basement Ladies laughs with some dames who run the most essential operations of a rural Minnesota church circa 1964: the meals, the preachin' to the kids and the guiding of the pastor.
