THEY MAKE CARTOONS LOOK GOOD: An evening of cartoons and N.E.R.D.s makes for one hell of a party. Known for their comic cool alter egos, Gorillaz step outside of the box with their music, personality and lasting creative talent. The British-born cartoon band lead by animated front men 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs debuted in 2001. Behind the scenes the Gorillaz sound is all thanks to collaboration between various musicians with former Blur frontman Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett as permanent members. The cartoon clan currently holds the title of Most Successful Virtual Band in the Guinness Book of World Records. N.E.R.D. (No one Ever Really Dies) will be sharing the stage with Gorillaz tonight at the Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie at 7:30 p.m.
BROADCASTING FROM OVERSEAS: Straight from the other side of the pond, the play “A Disappearing Number” will be broadcast tonight at the Angelika Film Center. The live performance will be taking place in The Theatre Royal in Plymouth with a live broadcast. The play first opened in Plymouth in 2007 and features original music and poetry conceived and directed by Simon McBurney. Combining two love stories, set in two different centuries, the play takes you on a journey through time and place and while entering the mind of 20th century’s greatest natural mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan from Madras in South India, and his foil Cambridge dons GH Hardy from Great Britain. Tonight experience a bit of theatrical drama by paying a visit to Mockingbird Station and take a quick trip overseas at 7 p.m.
MAKE STUFF UP AS YOU GO ALONG: Let the random outbursts and nonsense story lines begin. Whether you’ve tried it, hate it or just plain don’t understand it, improv comedy has a way of making an impact with quick-on- your- feet abilities. This Wednesday flex your improv comedy muscles (or just enjoy as a spectator) at the Dallas Comedy House. Every hump day the DCH hosts a free jam session starting at 8:30 p.m.
