World's Largest Group of Board Game Enthusiasts to Converge on DFW

Tickets for the event sold out within minutes of being released online

If you thought board games were a thing of the past, think again. It is actually growing in popularity.

The world's largest group of board game enthusiasts will converge for a five-day convention at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport this weekend.

BGG.CON convention is a live event for gamers who met on the board gamers website, boardgamegeek.com. That's how the big convention started.

An estimated 3,000 people from around the world will meet and game in the Hyatt.

If you're wondering how big of a deal this event really is for board game enthusiasts, they sold out registration badges for the event in less than an hour, nine months ago!

And there is a gamut of games to choose from: Party games, war games, strategy games, family games, dexterity games and so on. A makeshift library housed in the hotel has more than 5,000 to choose from.

"It's really a relaxing, fun time," said Jeff Anderson, BGG.Con Director of Events. "We have the board game publishers and designers are here to interact with the fans, and show off the new games, and sign board games."

Attendees can simply grab a game, sit down at a table inside the ballroom full of open tables for game play.

"It's this kind of world, we know who the designers are of these board games are, like you know who the author of a book is and so you want to kind of follow this board game designer who puts out the kinds of boards games I like," said Anderson.

The convention runs through Sunday afternoon at the Hyatt Regency at D/FW Airport. But, the event is sold out. There will, however, be another convention at the same spot in May or Memorial Day weekend.
