Dallas Zoo's New Baby Giraffe Has a Name: ‘Kopano'

The Dallas Zoo's newest giraffe finally has a name: "Kopano."

Kopano's name means "united" in the Tswana language of the African nation of Botswana. It was chosen by an online poll on dallaszoo.com.

The zoo announced the winning name Monday.

Kopano's birth was announced last week. It's already hit 6 feet tall and weighs 120 pounds.

Zookeepers say visitors will be able to see Kopano outdoors starting Monday.

The zoo had first auctioned off naming rights. An anonymous bidder who won with a $50,000 donation then allowed the zoo to put the giraffe's name up for a public vote.
