Dallas Readies for Victory Park New Year's Celebration

Attendees should pay attention to road closures in the area

The countdown to 2013 is on in North Texas and party planners are putting the finishing touches on the Big D NYE 2013 celebration in Victory Park.

Organizers said the stage is set for the biggest bash in the Central Time Zone.  It's the 6th year for the celebration outside of the American Airlines Center.

Revelers can ring in the new year with a bang.  Freworks will light up the sky at midnight, launched from four different buildings near downtown Dallas.

Bands will be rocking on two stages from Dallas' own Forever the Sickest Kids to Penatonix from NBC's hit show The Sing Off.

The event is free and kicks off at 7 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to come early.

Food and drinks are available for purchase at trucks and tents set up around the party.

There's also a $200 ticket for VIP treatment, which includes alcohol, close access to the entertainment, and a private food truck.

Drivers heading to Big D NYE, or who will be in the area, should expect some changes. Olive Street between North Houston and Victory Park Lane is already shut down. There will be more closures surrounding the celebration site that will lead up to the festivities.

At 1 p.m. Monday the following streets will close:

  • -Olive Street at Field Street and Victory Avenue
  • -N. Houston Street will close at Museum Way
  • -N. Houston Street between Payne Street and Victory Tavern (street will convert to two way traffic to accommodate valet)

Organizers say to avoid the traffic hassels, take the bus, DART line train to Victory Station or the TRE.

New this year, since the Dallas Stars are on strike, there isn't a game.  The AAC will be open, as well as the concession stands, to provide a place to warm up as North Texas counts down to New Year's Day.
