NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet

Join NBC 5 and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) for the 41st Annual Dr. George D. Flemmings Memorial Freedom Fund Banquet on Friday, November 9, at the Hilton Downtown Fort Worth Hotel.

For 108 years, the NAACP has worked to ensure the educational, political, social and economic equality of rights of all persons, to promote diversity and eliminate race-based discrimination. Through the years, the Fort Worth Tarrant County Branch of the NAACP has embraced that mission.

We are excited to have Ambassador Ron Kirk, Former U.S. Trade Representative as keynote speaker. He draws upon more than 25 years of diverse legislative and economic experience on local, state and federal levels. As the first African American Mayor of Dallas from 1995 - 2001, Ambassador Kirk earned a reputation for bringing together diverse coalitions to get things done. He will bring home the Branch's theme this year: Embrace and Empower Our Next Generation!

The NAACP 501c3 partner, the Education Building Association (EBA,) is joining this year, so ALL contributions will be a charitable tax deduction through EBA which will donate 100% of the proceeds to the Fort Worth Tarrant County NAACP.

The banquet begins at 6:45 p.m., the program includes entertainment and a special tribute to the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The tribute will consist of a special message from someone that marched beside him during the Civil Rights Movement - Congressman John Lewis.
