One Direction's Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson Apparently Smoking “Joint” in Video

Video footage has surfaced online of superstar One Direction members Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson smoking what is referred to as a "joint."

The footage, which ran on Britain's Daily Mail website shows the boy banders lighting up what appears to be a rolled-up cigarette in the back of van as they travel to a stadium performance in Peru.

Narrating the events from behind the camera is Tomlinson, 22, who can be heard saying "So here we are, leaving Peru. Joint lit. Happy days!"

Malik, 21, is filmed throughout the five-minute video, Tomlinson never appears on-camera.

"Getting a bit of the culture in," Tomlinson says turning the camera to focus out the window before panning back to Malik. "How’s that kind of culture?" he asks as Malik holds the "joint."

While filming a police motorcyclist in traffic alongside their vehicle, Tomlinson says "He's having a look. He's thinking, 'I'm sure I can smell an illegal substance in there.' And he's hit the nail on the head."

Reportedly shot on 27 April as the band were en route to a concert at the Estádio Nacional in Lima, the video does not show Malik and Tomlinson's fellow One Direction band mates Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan, who were not present in the vehicle.

NBC News was not able to reach One Direction's record label for comment. A spokesman for the band told Britain's Sky News that the matter "is now in the hands of our lawyers."

Formed in 2010, One Direction - or 1D- placed third in the British televised talent competition "The X-Factor" and are signed to Simon Cowell's recording label Syco Records. They were named 2012's Top New Artist by Billboard and have released three albums.

According to the 2014 Sunday Times Rich List the five band members have a combined fortune of £70 million ($117 million).

One Direction's world tour began last month in Bogotá, Columbia. The band is next scheduled to perform in England on May 28.
