Neil Diamond Pens Song About Boston Marathon Bombing

Singer Neil Diamond said he is writing a song about the Boston Marathon tragedy, according to Rolling Stone Magazine.

"I'm writing now and obviously affected by this situation in Boston, so I'm writing about it just to express myself," he told the magazine.

Diamond made national news last week when he surprised spectators at Fenway Park by singing "Sweet Caroline" at a Red Sox game, the team's first home game since the Boston Marathon bombs rocked the city. For several years, the song has been the unofficial anthem of the Red Sox and it is belted out by the Fenway Park crowd at each game.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer said the song will be a commentary on the spate of national tragedies in recent months.

"It's like an infestation, and I'm writing about the general situation, not just about this bombing in Boston, but what we're going through with all of these tragedies – shootings and so on and so forth," he says.

There is no release date for the song yet, but Diamond told Rolling Stone last week that the song should be done by the end of the weekend.
