As much as we all want to stay up to the minute on the Boston media coverage, doing so can take a toll on the soul.
Amy Poehler, a Newton, Mass., native and Boston College alum, posted a candid video on her Smart Girls channel Friday, advising a troubled teenager on how to take in the troubling images being shown over and over.
"What should we be looking at and watching these days?" the "Parks and Recreation" star asked. "Because, in light of recent events, I've--and I'm sure you have--and the rest of the world, if not America, have been looking at photographs that have been really hard to take. I've been thinking about what these images do to our brains and to our heart and how we should look at them, and when we should look at them."

"What do I want my eye to see?" she continued. "How can I keep myself informed and connected without exploiting people and harming myself?"
The mom of two pointed out she's concerned about certain media "using images, and therefore using people" in order "to get a reaction" from the viewer.
"I don't know," she continued. "It's been tough, hasn't it? Doesn't it feel like we're just bombarded with stuff now? That everywhere we go there's just some picture that's worse than the one before?"

"I wonder if we could soften our hearts and minds and our eyes, and I wonder if we could give our eyes a break," she said. "And maybe try to see things in a different way...To see things by reading about them or talking about them or listening...I kind of feel like my eyes need a break."
"I don't know if any of this makes sense," she said, concluding with a heartfelt, "I love you, Boston."
