Scoop: ‘X Factor' could mark the spot for Paula Abdul

Paula Abdul’s professional future has been defined more by what she is not going to do than what she might be doing.

So far, a position hosting a new “Star Search” and a role in the Broadway show “In the Heights” have been nixed.

However, it's still possible that Abdul will join Simon Cowell’s “X Factor” when it comes to the U.S. in fall of 2011.

When asked about her future on that show, Abdul told reporters at Perez Hilton’s birthday party Saturday, “We’ll have to see about that.”

Abdul also let on that she’s watching “American Idol” this season.

A source at the party says that she could be overheard talking about being a fan of the show’s frontrunners Siobhan Magnus and Crystal Bowersox.

Gosselin’s ‘DWTS’ run could be short
If Kate Gosselin’s debut performance on “Dancing with the Stars” didn’t leave you doubting her longevity on the show, then judge Bruno Tonioli’s remarks should have done the trick.

Tonioli likened Gosselin and partner Tony Dovolani’s Viennese waltz to a trip down aisle seven, saying, “It looked like Tony was pushing a shopping cart around the floor.”

That wasn’t lost on Gosselin, who is wondering about her fate as week two of the show begins. “I hope I’m not one of the first to go,” she told People magazine. “I really like it here. You become close to everyone so fast.”

Gosselin’s admission that she’s become close to the competition flies in the face of claims that the mom of eight has been standoffish and distant with her fellow “DWTS” castmates.

“She’s totally getting along with the other people on the show,” said a source close to Gosselin. “People who say otherwise just like to hate on her.”

‘Dragon’ wins, but doesn’t slay box office
“How to Train Your Dragon,” did top the weekend box office, but its performance was not as impressive as other recent 3-D openings.

“Dragon” brought in $43.3 million, which is $16 million less than what “Monsters Vs. Aliens” made this time last year, and on fewer 3-D screens. “Alice in Wonderland,” was No. 2 and made $17.3 million; the other big newcomer, “Hot Tub Time Machine” came in the third spot, and made a$17.3 million, which is something of a disappointment for the studio.
