Michael Jackson Birthday Burial Postponed: Dad

Singer's dad: "I don't know" when service will be

Michael Jackson will have to wait to rest in peace.

The King of Pop -- who has yet to be laid to rest more than two months after his shocking death -- will have a private funeral on Sept. 3, according to a family spokesman who offered no explanation for the delay.

The singer's father, Joe Jackson, had originally said the birthday burial for his son would be at the Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif., on Aug. 29. The private service was slated for what would have been Jackson's 51st birthday.

But now the service has been postponed until the family can better prepare for the funeral, according to reports. There was some indication the service would be delayed for two days, but the elder Jackson said he was unsure of the timeline.

"I don't know now," he told E! News. "We have to figure it out."

Jackson's body, resting in a gold-plated casket, is set to be placed in the wall of the burial chamber in the Holly Terrace section of Forest Lawn cemetery. His five brothers are expected to be pallbearers.

The funeral has been delayed in the past because the family was concerned vandals would desecrate the singer's grave, according to report.

The star-studded, uber-secure facility is also the final resting place for legendary stars like Clark Gable, W.C. Fields, Red Skelton and Jean Harlow, among others.
