Andy Dick Saved By Fellow Obnoxious L.A. Institution

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- An arrest warrant for 42-year-old comedian Andy Dick was rescinded by a Riverside Superior Court Judge because a positive result from his alcohol monitoring ankle bracelet was apparently incorrect, the website TMZ reported Tuesday --while patting itself on the back.

Dick was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay fines totaling nearly $700 on Oct. 17 after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor marijuana possession and battery counts stemming from an incident in mid-July, when he pulled a teenage girl's top down after exiting a Murrieta, Calif. sports bar.

Dick was ordered to enroll in the Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor program, or SCRAM. As part of the sentence, he must wear an anklet for one year to monitor his use of alcohol, according to court records.

A warrant was issued after the device apparently produced a positive reading for alcohol.

The anklet is designed to alert law enforcement of a positive result, Ryan Hightower, information officer with the Riverside County District Attorney's Office, told City News Service. A positive test would lead to Dick's arrest and jail time, CNS reported.

Dick denied any alcohol use. He said that the booze was on the floor of a comedy club, triggering the device, TMZ.com reported.

SCRAM personnel told TMZ.com that the device produced a reading of less than .02, indicating that it was likely the result of "environmental circumstances," and they incorrectly reported the reading to authorities as a violation.

The apparent mistake was brought to the attention of the judge, who then rescinded the warrant, TMZ.com reported.
