Leno is expected to make the announcement on Tuesday.

In 2004, NBC promised the “Tonight Show,” job to “Late Night” host O’Brien. As time crept closer to his “Tonight Show” start date, industry analysts began to wonder if NBC could afford to lose Leno, who rules late night ratings.

Leno was reportedly in talks with ABC, Fox network and Sony, according to The Times.
