Wax On: Jaden Smith to Be Next “Karate Kid”

Will Smith's son Jaden will "use head for something other than target" as the star of an upcoming "Karate Kid" remake.

Smith, a martial arts practitioner, got his start in film playing alongside his father in the 2006 movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" and has followed that up with a role in "The Day the Earth Stood Still," which is set to be released on Dec. 12.

The new movie is being produced by Jerry Weintraub, the man behind the original, reports Variety. Shooting begins next year in Beijing and other cities.

Sadly, the series will have to continue without the beloved Mr. Miyagi. Noriyuki "Pat" Morita passed away in 2005, after a long career that first saw success in 1975 with his brief stint as Arnold, owner of everybody's favorite hangout on the hit sitcom "Happy Days."

The first "Karate Kid" film came out in 1984 and helped make star Ralph Macchio a household name. It was also Elisabeth Shue's movie debut.

In 1994 the franchise's third installment was released, with Hillary Swank taking over the titular role in "The Next Karate Kid." She has since done well for herself, winning Best Actress Oscars for her work in "Boys Don't Cry" and "Million Dollar Baby."
