The holidays are the perfect time to experiment with your makeup, so why not go for the bold 60’s style so many stars have been wearing on the red carpet?

Debbie Zoller, lead makeup artist for “Mad Men,” the critically acclaimed AMC drama set in the 60’s, reveals how to get the look.

“It’s fun, flirty and sexy. With the holidays approaching, it’s a great way to bring a little sophisticated 60’s glamour to modern times,” Debbie says.

SMOOTH SKIN
”To create the flawless 1960’s look on the ladies of “Mad Men” I always start with a freshly moisturized face. I begin by applying Crème de la Mer Moisturizer and The Lifting Face Serum to clean skin. Next, I use a foundation to create the beautiful, perfect skin ladies depicted during that era.” Debbie suggests using a foundation brush to get a smooth finish. “Use a translucent powder to set the makeup and give that beautiful matte skin that the period is so known for.”

“MAD” MAKEUP
“The makeup is designed based upon my research. I searched eBay, vintage stores and my own families’ archives for magazines and pictures that speak of that era,” Debbie says. “This period is known for its perfectly arched brow and the beautifully defined lip. The brows are tweezed and penciled, elongating them at the same time. The brow pencils I use are Clinique Fling and MAC Lingering,” If you prefer using a powder instead of pencil, Benefit makes great ones called Brow Zings…

BOLD EYES
“Liquid eyeliner is a must for this look,” Debbie advises. “Chanel liquid liner and Bobbi Brown gel liner are both great choices. Apply thinly from inner corner of eyes and get progressively thicker towards the outer edge of the eye. Adding a little wing at the end of the eye with the liner and some false lashes makes the eyes even more alluring.”

“I always use matte eye shadows on the ladies eyelids; unless of course I’m using a frosty blue or green for an evening look. I so remember my mother wearing that frosty blue,” Debbie says. “When researching this time period, I just opened up her cosmetic drawer and found exactly what I needed to match.MAC has some great matte eye shadows. For everyday, ‘Orb,’ ‘Brule,’ ‘Vanilla’ are 3 great choices. Revlon makes great frosty blues, greens and purples for that party look.” Finish with black mascara.

RED LIPS
“No 60’s look would be complete without red lips. I line the lips with a red lip liner that matches the lipstick perfectly. Brick or Cherry by MAC both work perfectly with almost every red lipstick shade. With this retro look, matte lipsticks work best. I then take a little dab of the red lipstick on my middle finger, have my actress smile in the mirror and apply just a hint of it to the apples of their cheeks. It adds a beautiful healthy glow to the cheeks,” Debbie says.
