Christina Applegate On Fight Against Cancer: ‘I'm Not A Victim'

Christina Applegate “absolutely” wants to be a mom, she said in a new interview with the Nov. 16 issue of TV Guide – and it’s likely to be sooner than later.

The “Samantha Who?” star, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and underwent a double mastectomy in July, says she has the BRCA1 gene – which makes “chances of ovarian cancer a lot higher, too.”

“They suggest you kind of get it on before you’re a certain age so that they can remove your ovaries,” she told TV Guide. “That definitely makes a big difference in my timetable.”

But Christina, who’s reportedly dating rocker Martyn Lenoble, has a few things to take care of first, starting with reconstructive surgery later this month, around the date of her 37th birthday.

“I still have quite a process until this is done,” she said. “Yes, it’s hard. It sucks. But I’m not a victim.”

And she’s hard at work on the second season of “Samantha Who?,” where she reportedly puts in 14-16 hour days.

“It’s good to be back,” she said. “I get tired quickly. But it’s nice to have a focus for a minute outside of that.”

Still, though she called herself a “push-through-it kind of gal,” she’s learned to let herself relax.

“I speak up for myself a lot,” she said. “If I feel tired, I’ll ask for the time that I need.”

The star even treated herself to the home she’s long wanted after her diagnosis, which she said put things in perspective.

“I started looking for a beach house the day I found out I had this little disease,” she said. “You just kind of go, ‘What are you waiting for to get the things that you want and the things that you dream of?’”
