Kidney Walk

Take a lifesaving step

Take a lifesaving step to help the millions affected by kidney disease with NBC 5's Kristi Nelson at The National Kidney Foundation Kidney Walk on Saturday, April 21, at Baylor Tom Landry Park in Dallas.

The National Kidney Foundation Kidney Walk is a non-competitive 1.5 mile or 3 mile course open to all ages, fitness levels, and participants with special needs.  The Kidney Walk brings awareness to the prevention of kidney disease and the need for organ donation. It's also an opportunity for patients, family, friends and businesses to come together so bring the whole family along for this healthy, fun, and meaningful event.

Over 382,000 Americans rely on a dialysis machine to keep them alive and nearly 90,000 are on the waiting list for a lifesaving kidney transplant. Approximately, 26 million Americans have chronic kidney disease and most are not aware of it. Because symptoms may not appear until the kidneys are actually failing, millions of people with kidney damage remain unaware and are not taking steps to protect the health of their kidneys.

Funds raised for the Kidney Walk help the National Kidney Foundation provide educational programs, early detection kidney health screenings and many more vital programs.
