NBC 5 and the National Kidney Foundation proudly sponsor and invite you to attend a health education seminar “Tune In and Turn On - A Kidney Health Update.” If you or a family member has kidney disease, diabetes, or high-blood pressure than this seminar is for you.

The seminar includes:

Keynote Speaker Andy Hickman
The Entertaining Encourager, Andy Hickman, who believes that our future will be based on two things:  “The choices that we make and the commitments that we honor.” Andy is the author of two inspiring books and has been a full-time professional speaker since 1990. One of Andy’s greatest moments was delivering the Keynote Address to the survivors of the Oklahoma City bombing.

The Ron Springs Award
This special award is in honor of Ron Springs, a former player for the Dallas Cowboys. Ron battled chronic kidney disease for 11 years before successfully receiving a kidney February 28, 2007 from his former teammate.

• Hemodialysis Catheters - How to Take Care of yours

By taking good care of your access, it will last longer and you will prevent problems such as infection and clotting.  This session is designed to help you learn more about taking care of your catheter and adhering to care.

• Diabetes - Create Your Healthy Eating Plan

Managing a CKD friendly diet while managing your diabetes can be difficult. This session provides information on diabetes specific nutrition and how to develop an eating plan that’s right for you.

• Getting Results- Food, Fitness and You
Presenter, Susan Smith, RD/LD, CDE, Consultant Nutritionist
For people with CKD at any stage, understanding how nutrition and fitness can affect their health is critical. This session is designed for those who want to choose to live healthier and live stronger by eating the right foods and learning a few simple exercises.

• Transplant – Everything You Want to Know
Presenter, Dr. Bernard Fischbach
The goal of a kidney transplant is to improve your quality of life.  A successful transplant results in improved health, a sense of well-being and a better energy level.  This session is designed to openly discuss the ABC’s of organ transplantation.
