Stage West Theatre brings a different twist to the regular cabin and lake summer camps. The Fort Worth based organization is letting creativity take front and center for their one-of-a-kind programs offered for everyone ages 7-22 and for all experience levels.

The camps are offered from June 5 to July 28 and cover everything from creative play, classic staged stories to improvisations. The programs include all of the fundamentals of theatre performance which allow students to learn public speaking techniques to scenic set designing and much more.
This summer’s schedule is:

June 5-16               Ages 7-12
9:30am-12:30        Law and Order: Fairy Tale Unit

In the fairy tale criminal justice system, the characters from fairy tales and nursery rhymes are represented to two separate yet equally ridiculous groups. These are their stories. Dun-dun.
Students participate in the theatre process from audition through rehearsal and scenic creation…by the end of the second week, the students will perform Law and Order: Fairy Tale Unit on our Studio stage.

June 12-16             Ages 13-18
1pm-4pm                Poetry, Performance and Change

Addressing social issues through personal stories and performance. This is a free-form workshop with writing elements, culminating in a performance or original works inspired by social issues and personal stories.  Students will learn playwriting, performance poetry (slam poetry), how poetry exists in music (lyrics and rap), how to incorporate comedy into serious topics, and how to create a powerful and personal show that they will debut on our Studio stage.

June 19-23             Ages 7-12
9:30am-12:30pm    Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!

In this fun and interactive workship, inspired by the world of Harry Potter, students invent their own Fantastic Beasts, and use them to create a short play! Students will learn costuming and staging in addition to developing their public speaking skills. The week culminates with a performance of the pieces on the Studio stage.

June 19-30             Ages 12-18
1pm-4pm                Summer Improv Troupe

Time for some improv! This two-week long improvisation intensive training guides students through games and techniques designed to create an original performance in the Studio at Stage West complete with audience interaction/participation. Come see the Stage West Improv Troupe in action!

June 26-30             Ages 7-12
9:30am-12:30pm    Broadway Musical Revue

Students learn musical theatre audition techniques, while performing short scenes and songs from great kid-friendly Broadway musicals. A selection of show-stopping numbers will be performed at the end of the week on the Studio Stage.

July 10-28              Ages 14-22
9:00am-4:00pm     Stage West Summer Conservatory

Seasoned industry artists lead Summer Conservatory students through the process that produces a theatrical show, including audition preparation technique, and training in areas of acting, scenic design and technical theatre. This fun and well-rounded program culminates in a performance of War of the Worlds: A Panic Broadcast* in our Studio theatre. In addition, Conservatory students take part in a professional photo shoot, taking home a disk of agent-ready headshots.

* War of the Worlds: A Panic Broadcast is by Joe Landry – "A performance of a news report of an alien invasion throws humanity into chaos...in this timely reminder of what fear can do to a society."
