“Lend a Hand” to Kids in Need with ACH Child and Family Services

Tuesday, April 7

Join NBC 5 and ACH Child and Family Services in marking National Child Abuse Prevention Month by attending the Lend a Hand advocacy luncheon on Tuesday, April 7, chaired by Alan and Sarah Bennett.

Now in its fifth year, Lend a Hand is designed to raise awareness of the impact that child abuse and neglect have on children and our community.

In 2014, Tarrant County documented more than 6,000 cases of child abuse, the highest number in the state. In addition, Tarrant County has 2,000 youth who are homeless or without a safe living environment at any given time. ACH serves the community through 15 programs focused on prevention, intervention and treatment services that help children and youth who have suffered abuse, neglect and family separation.

The keynote speaker for Lend a Hand is Derek Clark, who suffered extreme abuse as a child and spent 13 years in the foster care system. Clark defied the odds to become a successful author, speaker, trainer, singer/songwriter, husband and father of four. He is the author of six books including the I Will Never Give Up series and has gained wide recognition as the Rapping Dad from his viral “Rapping Dad” video. At the luncheon, he will share how he defied the odds and broke the cycle of abuse and neglect with the help of foster parents and mentors.

The 2015 Lend a Hand luncheon is the key advocacy event being held during the yearlong 100th anniversary observance of ACH. Individual tickets and sponsorships are available on the ACH website
