Alzheimer’s Association Hosts Summer Caregiver Seminar
Alzheimer’s Association North Central Texas Chapter

The Alzheimer’s Association North Central Texas Chapter is hosting its fourth annual summer caregiver seminar, Positive Approach® to Dementia Care at Any Stage, Tuesday, August 28 at the New River Fellowship Church from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

By 2020, it is estimated that 400,000 Texans will be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. To increase community awareness and education about the disease, the Alzheimer’s Association hosts a special half day event for family caregivers. The seminar combines informative presentations with time to interact with local businesses that serve the needs of people living with disease and those who care for them.

Dementia care educator, Beth Nolan, Ph.D., will give a presentation on how changes in the brain cause cognitive challenges associated with different forms of dementia. She will also provide strategies for interpreting and responding to verbal and behavioral messages in order to connect, communicate and care at different stages of the disease. Nolan is a mentor and trainer at Positive Approach® to Care (PAC), an organization whose mission is to support and engage people experiencing changes in brain function. This seminar also gives participants the opportunity to learn to focus on optimizing current abilities rather than what has been lost.

There is no charge for family caregivers and light refreshments will be provided during the late-morning break.
