NBC 5 Local News Expansion Continues With 11 a.m. Newscast

“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” and Gloria Allred to Join Daytime Lineup

NBC 5 is launching NBC 5 News at 11 a.m., a new half-hour newscast that will air weekdays starting September 5, 2011.

NBC 5 News at 11 a.m. will inform viewers across North Texas and offer timely and accurate weather forecasts provided by NBC 5’s team of professional meteorologists.

“We see this as an opportunity to provide North Texans with more live, local news in a time period not served by another news organization,” said Tom Ehlmann, NBC 5 president and general manager.  “The 11 a.m. program is the fifth news program we’ve added to the NBC 5 or DFW Nonstop schedules this year in a continued effort to serve the needs of our community.”

NBC 5 News at 11 a.m. will be led by a solo anchor assigned from the NBC 5 staff of journalists who will rotate duties on a regular basis.  Weekend anchor/reporter Ashanti Blaize will launch the program on September 5th.

Since April 2011, NBC 5 has added four weekday news programs.  On NBC 5 / Channel 5.1, NBC 5 First Weather debuted at 4:30 a.m. leading into the local 5-7 a.m. news.  On DFW Nonstop / Channel 5.2, DFW Today Nonstop, The Rundown and Nonstop Nightly with Jane McGarry was added to the schedule.

In addition to news, NBC 5 is launching two new daytime programs for North Texans.  “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” hosted by Meredith Vieira will air 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. weekdays followed by the new court show, “We The People with Gloria Allred” from 12:30 – 1 p.m.
