Courtney Gilmore joined NBC 5 as a weekday morning reporter in May 2016.
Her journalism career began in Houston, TX, where she spent nine years reporting and anchoring for KPRC Channel 2. In Houston she covered every big and breaking news story from wildfires and hurricanes, to political elections and human trafficking (including uncovering the largest domestic sex trafficking ring in Harris County).
Her interviews spanned across all genres, including a sit-down interview with Academy Award Winner Sidney Poitier, to most recently her interview with Astronaut Scott Kelly while he was aboard the ISS during his “year in space” mission.
Her reports have also expanded internationally. She covered the impact of human trafficking in Europe and traveled to Greece and Bulgaria to uncover efforts made to combat the epidemic and the direct link to Texas.
Courtney believes her platform as a journalist is a privilege. While in Houston, she was honored by then Mayor Annise Parker and the Houston City Council, for her excellent work as a journalist and service within the community.
She has guest-lectured workshops overseas in the United Arab of Emirates at the American University in Dubai, and has held journalism workshops and mentored students throughout several universities in Texas. The deeper she steps into her craft as a journalist, the more humbling her stance becomes.
Courtney was born and raised in Houston. She graduated from Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She trained with the Guthrie
Acting Program at the University of Minnesota, where she also received her BFA degree in Classical Theatre in 2005.
Before graduating from the University of Minnesota, she performed and trained around the world from Shanghai and Beijing, China to London, England. Courtney went back to school to earn her master's degree at Dallas Theological Seminary.
Aside from her passion for storytelling, she loves to travel. She has been to 17 countries, and is always planning for her next trip and welcomes any suggestions!
Courtney is a huge theatre buff and loves the arts. She also loves working out, enjoying the outdoors, and extreme sports.
Courtney is excited to call DFW her new home!
