Oklahoma Says No Thanks to Flaming Lips

Oklahoma Says No Thanks to Flaming Lips

The people voted for Flaming Lips, but Oklahoma legislators are not.

The Oklahoma House has rejected a resolution for the Flaming Lips song "Do You Realize??" to become Oklahoma's official state rock song.

That song had won a public poll to choose the song. House members voted 48-39, and it takes at least 51 votes to pass the measure.

The state senate had passed the resolution.

Representative Corey Holland says when the band was introduced in the House, a band member had worn a T-shirt with a hammer and sickle on it, the symbols of Communism.

Representative Mike Reynolds says he was offended by the band members' foul language.

Representative Joe Dorman, who introduced the resolution, says the band can express themselves how they wish.

Flaming Lips could not be reached for comment.

    What the El!?! Editorial:

I'm so glad I moved to Texas as fast as I could.

Come on Oklahoma it's time to get over yourself.

Of all the song to choose from Realize is a great song.
