Young Up for Texas Sports Hall Consideration

The Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco covers a wide range of sports over a wide range of levels — from the best high school football players and coaches of all time to guys like Roger Staubach and Nolan Ryan.

The latest Rangers player to be up for consideration in the Hall of Fame is Michael Young, who is a possibility for the 2016 class of inductees. The class will be announced in September, according to The Dallas Morning News.

If Young, who is the Rangers' all-time leader in several offensive categories and is now a special assistant to general manager Jon Daniels, is inducted to the Hall, he'd be the fourth Ranger to earn the honor, joining Ryan, Pudge Rodriguez and Jim Sundberg.

Some other athletes Young is up against for 2016 induction include former Cowboy great Larry Allen, former Maverick great Jason Kidd, Olympic gymnastics gold medalist Nastia Liukin and former Detroit Piston and Chicago Bull NBA champion Dennis Rodman, who went to high school in Dallas and actually had an often-forgotten short stint with the Mavericks to close out his NBA career.
