Young Could Play for Mexico

In another one of those odd quirks involving national sports teams, it appears former Texas Rangers star Michael Young could sport the red, white and green for Mexico in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, featuring big-league players in a world baseball tournament.

Young's mother is of Mexican descent, which makes him eligible to play for the squad, as Mexico turned his name in as a potential squad member.

This is right up there on the "What??" scale with Ian Kinsler and Ryan Braun playing for Team Israel, Mike Piazza playing for Team Italy or the Dallas Mavericks' Chris Kaman playing alongside Dirk Nowitzki on the German national team despite the fact he's lived in the United States his entire life.

It'll be interesting to see what happens, but Young would definitely be starting for Team Mexico. There'd be no squabbles about that.
