If you're a Texas Tech football fan like myself, you know what it's like to have an inexperienced, galvanizing former player take over an entire program/franchise and try to liven things up a bit.

This winter, when the Texas Rangers look to replace departed manager Ron Washington in what they hope is a huge bounce-back season, there's one name being tossed around out there that wouldn't make a whole lot of sense, except for the fact that it would.
Michael Young, the Rangers' all-time leader in just about every category, had a bitter split from the team following the 2012 season but came back at the beginning of 2014 to retire as a Ranger and have a public make-up with general manager Jon Daniels.
Young is the consumate professional on the field — always was. Off the field, he had his spats, but he never let the negativity go between the lines and always was a leader for the team on the field and in the clubhouse.
Now, national columnist Richard Justice is one of many folks suggesting the Rangers look Young's way in their off-season managerial search. I'm not so sure Young is what the Rangers need as a team expected to be back in the upper echelon of the league when they have a healthy roster next season, but he would be a galvanizing force and make the fanbase happy, for the most part.
It wouldn't be unprecedented. Guys like Brad Ausmus and Mike Matheny recently got managerial jobs with no prior coaching experience, so Young could be the next in line.
