MLB: Rangers Close Deal With Berkman as DH

The Texas Rangers have closed a deal with Lance Berkman to be their designated hitter according to MLB.com

MLB.com reports the veteran slugger agreed to a one-year contract that includes a vesting option for 2014.

Berkman's deal is pending a physical.

Texas Rangers President Nolan Ryan had publicly expressed the team's interest in Berkman, who was limited by injuries to 32 games for St. Louis last season.

The 36-year-old Berkman spent the 11½ seasons with the Houston Astros, the team for which Ryan previously worked.
