The Texas Rangers have 25 games left before their suffering ends and they hit the offseason to try to get healthy and add a few more pieces for what they hope is a successful 2015 campaign. It's the first time since 2008 that we've gotten to September and been able to, without a doubt, count down the end of the Rangers' season.
Currently, they have the worst record in baseball and are in line to get the No. 1 pick in the draft next summer, but right now, the Rangers are just looking to avoid a 100-loss season — something absolutely no one, even the fiercest Jon Daniels haters out there, could have ever imagined.
In order to do that, the Rangers will have to win 10 more games, which would give them a 63-99 record. That doesn't seem like a terribly tall task, until you look at the remaining schedule.
After completing this series with the AL Central-leading Royals, the Rangers will return home to face a Seattle Mariners team fighting tooth and nail for an AL Wild Card spot, currently just 1 1/2 games out of the second spot. Then, it's home against the AL West-leading Angels and home for a three-game set with an Atlanta Braves team also 1 1/2 games out of the NL Wild Card.
After that, the Rangers go to Oakland and to Anaheim before returning home for the one respite — a three-game set with Houston, which is 11-5 against Texas this year, and a four-game set with Oakland to close this nightmare of a season.
So, looking at the schedule and being a tad bit generous, I'm projecting eight wins this month for the Rangers and 101 losses. Who would've thunk it? The 2015 season can't get here fast enough.
